Is God's Power Limited?

And the LORD said to Moses, "Is the Lord's power limited?  Now you shall see whether My word will come true for you or not."  Numbers11:23

As the people of Israel set out from Mount Sinai, after experiencing the provision of God and yet forgetting them; they once more think of Egypt and all the food they had there.  I get that, after walking in the wilderness, eating manna day after day, it would get old being hot and eating the same thing and your mind would wander back to those days in Egypt when you could have all the food you wanted.  They are remembering the free fish, the cucumbers, the melons, leeks, onions, and garlic.  Tasty foods.  And the wandering of the days intensified the taste of what they once had.

In their remembering the food, they forgot the slavery.  They forgot what they were rescued from.  They had cried out in desperation to be freed from the Egyptian slavery only now to want to go back for food.

Moses was distraught with these people and cried out to God for He was the One who told Moses to lead this group of people.  Moses was being attacked by the people and feared his life at times.  He was weary.

God honoured their request for meat, but He was very displeased.  He told Moses that He would supply meat for them till it became loathsome.  Moses' mind went to thinking, 'How in the world will we find enough meat for 600,000 people?!?

And God asks Moses, "Is My power limited?"

How often I wonder how something will be provided for or taken care of?  How many times does my mind go to fixing and taking care of a situation, only to come up short and wonder how "600,000" will be taken care of.

God has got it!  He has ways that surpass my understanding or knowledge.  He sent a wind from Himself that sent quail up from the sea, lots of them!  They fell beside the camp a day's journey on one side to a day's journey to other side and 18" deep.

But in this moment, even though God provided for the people, this request showed their lack of remembering God's provision and it displeased God.  So that as they were eating the Lord struck them with a plague and many died.  So many they named the place, Kibroth-hattaavah, the graves of greediness.

Sometimes our requests are an indication of our 'forgetting' God and wanting to provide for ourselves.  I sense the call, the invitation from God to remember His provision in times past, that He is the same today, right now in any new present hard.  To be honest, I'm a lot like the Israelites in that I so quickly 'forget' God's provision in my hard and wonder if He cares? Does He still love me? Is He still good?

Of course He is!  That's why we need to remember God's provisions in past situations and to remember that His power is not limited.

God has ways that are beyond our comprehension.  Will you choose to trust Him and to believe His power is unlimited?  Will I?
