Choosing to Believe In the Midst of Disappointment and Finding Life

 

"I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die.  Do you believe this?"  John 11:25-26

These words were spoken to Martha as she met Jesus, who was coming to their place after Lazarus had died.  Jesus arrived four days after Lazarus was laid in the grave.  She met Jesus with her disappointment, after all, she had sent for Him to come.  She met Him, saying, - "Lord, if You had been here my brother would not have died."  And in the midst of her disappointment she held faith - "Even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You."

And then Jesus reveals a bit of Himself to her with the words that He is the resurrection and the life and she responds to Jesus' question - "Yes, Lord; I have come to believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God and He who comes into the world."

Our journey so often holds this same tension - the tension of disappointment at the timing of Jesus and how it doesn't make sense, with the faith we hold and what it calls us to do - to believe when it makes the least sense.

My prayer is; that we can say along with Martha, "Yes, Lord I have come to believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God and He who comes."

When our faith is in the Person and not in the outcome of what the Person does - we can say, "Even now, I still believe."

I have learned and continue to learn that God comes and to believe He is God and is good at being God and is good towards us.  He is the resurrection and life.  We live as we believe Him and in living, even though we die physically, we shall live eternally.

Life.

Life everlasting.  Life is found in believing who God is and by faith we walk with Him, our hand in His.  Friend, whatever disappointment may be in your story today - take this moment to declare and to choose to believe that God is a good God and is with you, coming in the most life-giving way.
