The Strength Found in the Wait
Yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new (renew their) strength, they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary. Isaiah 40:31 (NASB)
WAIT.
Wait in the Hebrew means to bind together (perhaps by twisting), to collect, to expect, gather, look.
RENEW. (pass on, spring up, change, abolish, go on forward, grow up, sprout)
This verse in Isaiah comforted me and yet, in many ways baffled me. How does one get strength by waiting. Yes, God gives strength in our weakness, but really, what is the strength in waiting?
Until I read the Hebrew meaning of wait. Then it made more sense.
When I wait on the Lord, I am binding myself to Him and His strength renews mine. I am joined to Him and I can soar because He has everlasting strength and never gets tired.
I may get tired, but He does not. I get weary, but He does not. So when I look for Him; when I join to Him; I find my way through and His strength carries me to heights I didn't know possible.
I don't know what hard you are facing or walking through today; but I do know the One who wants you to bind yourself to. I know the One who wants to infuse His strength into your weakness so that you can still soar.
Waiting is looking for the One who wants to give you strength. Waiting is gathering evidence of the One whose goodness is still present in the hard and choosing to see Him. Waiting is holding both the pain and the hope of our story and binding ourselves to God, the One who never tires or wearies .
You and I can trust Him. He is trustworthy and faithful.
