The Rock That Carries the Weight
Hear my cry, O God; give heed to my prayer. From the end of the earth I call to Thee, when my heart is faint; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
For Thou hast been a refuge for me, a tower of strength against the enemy. Let me dwell in Thy tent forever; let me take refuge in the shelter of Thy wings. Psalm 61:1-4
In the moments of our weakness, when our heart faints beneath the load of pain, the hard, rejection, darts hurled; we have a ROCK, Jesus. Like David prayed, lead me to that rock, a rock that is higher than I. This is a truth and one that reminds me of where to go and that God is a sure and solid foundation, a rock to stand upon and steady oneself.
David found God to be a place of refuge, a tower of strength as he once again faced the taunts that were hurled at him and another person out to get him. I just love that word picture of a tower of strength and towers are built on rock, something solid.
I too, like David, can find refuge under the wings of God. God, my Father and your Father, wants to shelter us among the darts and hard we find ourselves in.
I don't know what you may be facing today, but I do know the One who wants to shelter you and me, the One who is a tower of strength for you to take one more step and then another. Jesus. He is a Rock of strength, something solid to stand upon and to anchor your feet as you rise to fight one more battle. You got this because of the Rock, Jesus. Stand upon it and shout the victory cry that is yours and mine.
Maybe your victory cry is a stumbling step, but if it's a step taken toward Jesus, it's a big step! It might be one taken from a prostrated place with eyes fixed on the One who saves and that is victory.
Let's fight and let's stay with Jesus, under His wings and find Him to be our tower of strength when we are weak and faint. (Oh, how I love that word picture - a tower of strength! Not a little bit, but a TOWER, a whole-bunch of strength!) Let's live in that.
Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.
