The Light of the World in a Weary World

Image
One of the I AM's that Jesus stated about Himself is, I AM the Light of the world. John 8:12 Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in  the darkness, but will have the Light of life." Jesus came in a very dark time of history.  There were four hundred years of silence of which no prophet declared a word from the LORD.  He came in the night.  All was dark on a hillside where the shepherds were tending their flock.  The stars may have been twinkling on that ordinary night. A night when maybe fears loomed big, the ordinary seemed so ordinary, and hope seemed just a distant twinkle that could be snuffed out. When... All of a sudden the dark was lit with the glory of the Lord and an angel with a message. Luke 2:9  Glory to God in the highest and peace, a Saviour is born. Jesus came to bring light in the dark.  He is the Light in our darkness. He is the Way through. The shepherds said...

The Way of God's Kingdom

Luke 6:31 are words that Jesus spoke and are a part of what He says is the Way of His kingdom.  They are... "And just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way." These are words we quote as the Golden Rule, and often with the twist, treat me as you want to be treated.  These words are a framework to guide our actions and I have found them to be the most difficult to live out when it calls me to care, to treat someone as I'd want to be treated when I'd rather give retaliation.  There are no prerequisites, no saying you don't have to depending on what they did. No, it simply says treat others as you'd like to be treated.  Now, I want to say, I am in no way advocating for abusive situations.  But as Jesus spoke these words they hold a truth that He wants us to live into that really calls us to live in His power and strength. As I understand His grace and love for me, it will impact the way I offer grace and love to those around me.

The Care of Our Father

Having cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares about you.  I Peter 5:7 There is a place to go with all our anxiety. To cast, is to throw, to pitch, whatever is weighing down your heart or mind, on Jesus. The grief that is so heavy, let it at the feet of Jesus. There is so much that can cause us to be filled with anxiety. Anxiety is real, but the truest truth is we have a Father who cares and can handle carrying our pain, burdens, grief, and anxiety. Cast it into His Presence and let Him care for you.
